Three Perennial Questions

 In Family Constellation Fundamentals

The New Year affords us an opportunity to start fresh.  Many of us take the opportunity to consider what is important to do or become in the coming year.  We use three perennial questions for a crucial starting point for self-exploration.  We believe they will awaken your heart’s desire to take a journey toward peace.

Question 1:  How did we get here?

We are an amalgam of energies, a life force that coalesced and descended from Spirit to become human form.  The Buddist and Hindu traditions teach that we each make a choice to become human form, Spirit as Soul.  In order to do so, we all pass through the Veil of Forgetting and enter the world through our ancestral, biological, and genetic pairing of our parents.  This gift of life gives us the opportunity to awaken and discover our true nature.

Take some time to contemplate the question: How did we get here?

  • I came through a choice I made prior to birth.
  • That choice included my biological mother and father.
  • I am energy, a life force, consciousness that has travelled from another realm and now resides in my physical body.
  • I am Spirit incarnate.

Question 2:  Why are we here?

Looking at our relationships with our family offer a window into Soul agreements made and into feeling interconnection with those that gave us life.  It is useful to examine this question through the lens of desire.  It is our heart’s sometimes-hidden longing to come closer to our loved ones, to reconcile, forgive, and to find happiness and a lasting sense of peace.  Desire is the key to opening the door of our existence.  Imagine yourself standing at this doorway and contemplating the question:  Why are we here?

  • What is my desire?
  • What is my desire in relation to my father?
  • What is my desire in relation to my mother?
  • What is my desire in relation to my current relationship?
  • What is my desire in relationship to a difficult event or circumstance in my life?

Question 3: How shall we live our lives?

The answer for each person lies not on the surface of the conscious mind but deep in the unconscious where the Soul resides, beneath the functioning processes of our thinking mind.  To get a glimpse of our Soul nature, we need to look beyond the physical sense of our self, past the brain’s mental chatter, and through our variety of emotional reactions to those around us.  In this way, we can break through to the healing expansiveness of Soul Consciousness. Now contemplate the question: How shall we live our lives?

  • What do I need to let go of?
  • What do I want more of in my life to bring joy and happiness?
  • What am I here to do?
