Family of Origin Constellation

Whether or not you are with family this holiday season, we encourage you to set up your Family of Origin Constellation in the Order of Precedence — that is, as each member has come into the family, chronologically.

It is a simple, yet very powerful exercise to see your family together and to give thanks for this “Family Soul Group” of which you are a part. You may be surprised that this has a noticeable positive effect on the experience when the day that you celebrate together arrives.

Family of Origin Constellation

~ Gather numerous small figurines (chess pieces, crystals, shells, rocks, small spice bottles, nail polish…) be sure to have one figurine for yourself.

~ On a sturdy surface, like a table, desk or countertop, create your Family of Origin Constellation using the figurines as Representatives. Allow yourself to be the ‘observer’ looking into your Family of Origin.

~ As you place each member, call their name aloud or silently – either way, their Soul will hear. If you don’t know their names, say the name Grandmother, for example, followed by the surname, if you know it.

~ Place the figurines in relation to each other; begin with your father, mother and siblings. Wait, and then slowly add your two sets of grandparents.

~ Position the figurines in the Order of Precedence. Looking at the Constellation from left to right place your father, mother, and then your siblings in order of birth. Put your father’s parents behind him and your mother’s parents behind her. Leave a space where you belong. Observe and become aware of your feelings.

~ Place the figurine for yourself in the Constellation, in the space reserved for you. Observe and feel what it is like to be in your family, in your exact Order of Precedence.

~ Try saying one of these Words of Empowerment to your Family of Origin:

“This is the right family for me”

“I belong to this family.”

“I accept my family as it is.”
